Parking Canopies

Solar parking canopies are an increasingly popular choice for organizations seeking larger, visible installations.

Canopies can be mounted over ground-level parking lots or on top of multi-story parking garages. In addition to generating electricity, they provide shade for parked cars and can turn hot, exposed areas into pleasant, shaded ones. On a larger scale, adding solar canopies can help reduce a site’s contribution to the local “urban heat island” – the retention of heat by paved areas.

Most parking canopies are fixed tilt, but they can also be designed as single-axis trackers such as the ones CarbonFree Technology developed for Arizona State University.

Because of the association between solar power and electric vehicles, some clients offer priority shaded parking for hybrid and electric cars, or even locate vehicle recharging stations under their solar canopies.
