Solar Power for Utilities
Many utilities have Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) targets they need to meet, by investing in renewable energy projects or buying the environmental attributes from projects owned by other parties.
Utilities are in a good position to buy solar power wholesale under long-term contracts. When utility budgets are strained, they may choose to do this making any upfront capital expenditures, by using solar PPAs.
CarbonFree Technology can work with utilities to analyze their solar resource, indentify available incentives and design optimal systems. We make sense of solar – taking care of every aspect of a project from the initial structural analysis to the final commissioning and ongoing maintenance. Systems can be mounted wherever they best suit a utility customer: on rooftops, above ground-level or multi-storey parking spaces, or on spare land.
Benefits for Utilities
- Achieve RPS objectives
- Decrease carbon-intensity of generating mix
- Reduce need for new grid infrastructure by generating power closer to loads
- Increase generating capacity more quickly than with traditional central generating technologies, and in smaller increments
- Increase generating capacity at peak times
- Help jurisdiction reach carbon-reduction targets
- Preserve capital for other uses
What Is Involved
Structural – CarbonFree Technology works with energy decision makers or other appropriate people within your organization to determine whether you can benefit from hosting one or more solar power systems. We engage independent third-party structural engineers to certify that the desired system can be supported, and in the case of rooftop systems we work closely with your own roofing contractors to make sure that roofs are unaffected and roof warranties are maintained.
