Utilities

Many utilities are required to meet Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) targets, either by owning renewable energy generating assets themselves or by buying the environmental attributes from projects built and owned by others. In some instances utilities are even required to meet specific solar RPS targets.

While solar power has yet to reach “grid-parity” in most parts of North America, systems can still be very useful to utilities because of their:

  • Approximate co-incidence with peak load
  • Ability to be located in transmission- or distribution-constrained areas
  • Ability to built in relatively small increments
  • Long system life and low maintenance requirements

CarbonFree Technology has already worked closely with several utilities to help them develop solar power systems or build portfolios of solar assets. These range from smaller, municipal utilities to larger, national players. In once instance we are even jointly developing a solar photovoltaic test center with a municipal utility.

If you work for a utility, we would be happy to discuss with you how we can act as a solar development partner or to provide advisory services related to your solar strategy. If desired, we would also be happy to discuss how your utility can benefit from third-party ownership of solar power systems.

Contact Us if you would like to discuss your requirements.
